While many people describe winter as bleak or blustery, we at Haiku Newton think of it as the beginning of our 2026 season. Our submission period will open on February 5 (more details coming soon).
If you want to start writing now, or if you've never written haiku before, we have a resource that can help.
"The History of Haiku," created by Haiku Newton co-director Greg Fulchino and James O’Connor, both senior library assistants at the Newton Free Library, covers the history of the form -- which might surprise you.
The presentation also includes several examples of classic haikus and provides insights about what makes a haiku sing and how writers can expand the genre. Happy writing!
