One set of this year's winning signs can be viewed af the Newton Free Library, at 330 Homer Street. The signs will remain at the library through the month of July.
A second set was recently installed at the First Baptist Church, 848 Beacon Street As a staff member of the church told us, the poems are "something the congregation looks forward to each year."
We've heard other wonderful comments about this year's selections, and about how the signs bring poetry into people's lives in an accessible, unexpected way.
Fig City News recently posted a
story about Haiku Newton. We're grateful to the online newspaper for highlighting the importance of poetry and its ability to help people connect with one another, and with their own creativity.
The 2026 Haiku Newton Celebratory Reading will be held at the library on Tuesday, June 9, at 7 p.m. The co-directors of Haiku Newton – poets Grey Held, Elizabeth Lund, and Greg Fulchino – will talk briefly about the project, now in its fifth year, and the evolution of haiku. This will be followed by a reading of the winning poems – either by the poets themselves or, if they cannot attend, by one of the hosts. The poets may choose to share reflections on their creative process and participate in a group discussion with those in attendance.
