ARE YOU NEW TO HAIKU? image
While many people describe January as bleak or blustery, we at Haiku Newton think of it as the beginning of our 2026 season. Our submission period will open at the end of this month (more details coming soon).

If you want to start writing now, or if you've never written haiku before, we have a resource that can help. "The History of Haiku," created by Haiku Newton co-director Greg Fulchino and James O’Connor, both senior library assistants at the Newton Free Library, covers the history of the form -- which might surprise you. The presentation also includes several examples of classic haikus and provides insights about what makes a haiku sing and how writers can expand the genre. Happy writing!
